In 2012, based on our deep experience serving Korean companies and the trust gained from our clients, Cohen & Gresser became the third U.S. law firm approved by the Korean Ministry of Justice to open a foreign legal consultant office in Seoul.
The Seoul office is led by S.C. Sohn, whose practice focuses on cross-border litigation, international arbitration, products liability, intellectual property and licensing, and international business transactions. Mr. Sohn has over twenty years of experience advising top-tier clients, including as in-house counsel at Samsung Electronics and TG Trigem Computer and in private practice at the Korean law firm, Barun Law. Mr. Sohn has the unique perspective of having been a client of the firm prior to joining Cohen & Gresser. In 2013, Mr. Sohn was recognized as one of the 35 most innovative lawyers in Korea by The Korean Economic Daily, one of Korea’s most influential daily business newspapers.

Cohen & Gresser opened its Seoul office in the early stage of the opening of Korea’s legal market in September of 2012, becoming the third U.S. law firm (and the fourth among the U.S. and Europe-based law firms) approved by the Korean Ministry of Justice. As of now, more than 20 foreign law firms have opened offices in Seoul. Although it is hard to gauge other foreign law firms’ success, Cohen & Gresser has been outperforming in Korea. In this article, S.C. Sohn, the Managing Partner of C&G's Seoul office, shares the highlights and lessons from the past four very successful years.

Participants learned practical tips that they can apply before, during, and after a mediation session to improve their chances of reaching a mutually agreeable solution to seemingly intractable disputes.
