In recent years, there has been an increase in parallel government investigations brought by the Department of Justice, SEC, and other federal and state regulatory bodies, as well as private litigation.  In addition, there has been an increase in parallel investigations brought by various foreign agencies such as the SFO and FSA in the UK.  These parallel proceedings raise important issues regarding  5th Amendment rights against self-incrimination, limits on attorney-client privilege, stays of civil proceedings, discovery (domestic and foreign) and the impact of settlements in multiple proceedings.  The panel will review the trends in this area and discuss strategies by which companies and individuals can confront and manage these investigations.
